Bio

Emmy Award-winning makeup artist David Clark has spent his entire life working either before or behind the cameras.

Born in San Francisco, Clark began acting and modeling at age seven, appearing in fashion shows, commercials and as an extra in The Birds starring Tippi Hedren, Rod Taylor, Suzanne Pleshette and Jessica Tandy. Working With Tippi Hedren opened David's eyes to the world of glamour and at age 18 he entered the Deloux Academy of Beauty where he learned the art of fine makeup.

Upon graduation from beauty school, Clark signed on to do makeup for a number of commercials and independent films, quickly moving up to celebrity makeup for stars like Eartha Kitt and Sophia Loren. In 1975 he was hired by KPIX-TV in San Francisco as a makeup artist for guests appearing on People Are Talking, a position he held until the show went off the air in 1991.

David served as a makeup artist on the Academy Award-winning film, The Right Stuff. He won his first Emmy for his work on the documentary about the arrival of the King Tut exhibit in the United States. His second Emmy was for the intricate makeup work for the television docudrama The Choice. Other television work has included making up stars for soap operas, television series, and national talk shows. These include Guiding Light, The Young and the Restless, Real People and Phil Donahue. He has recently worked with Party of Five in San Francisco and is currently Elizabeth Farnsworth's makeup artist for the McNeil-Lehrer Newshour.

His immense popularity with the stars led David to be called in to do public appearance makeup for such celebrities as Madonna, Diana Ross, Michelle Phillips, Liza Minnelli, Janet Jackson, Cher, Joan and Jackie Collins. He also does fashion shows for such designers as Victor Costa, Bob Mackie, Donna Karan and Betsey Johnson. His makeup artistry has been featured on the pages of Cosmopolitan, People, and Sports Illustrated.

David divides his time between New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, where he resides with his wife and daughter.
